The name must read as ZIP. ZIP vs EXE · First run
Extract means a real folder, not Explorer’s ZIP preview. Preview launches look like missing DLLs. User-profile folders beat Program Files and beat Desktop synced to OneDrive when files lock.
Turn on file extensions. Xeno_1.3.6.0.zip should read as ZIP. A double extension or a stripped name is a different download. ZIP vs EXE.
Do not “install” with a third-party SFX unpacker that asked for admin to a random path. The official story is extract, then run from that folder. First run.
Controlled Folder Access can block writes next to the extract. That presents as a crash on execute. Allow the folder or move the extract.
Re-extract the same 1.3.6.0 instead of collecting five “latest” folders. Version is the filename, not the desktop shortcut date.
Next step is a supported client, then attach. Tutorial is the sequence; this page is only the disk part.
Folder on disk, then run the binary
Explorer ZIP preview is not an extract. Launching from inside the preview is how people get missing DLLs, empty hubs, and “Xeno closes instantly”. Extract to a user folder you can write: Downloads\Xeno or Documents\Xeno, not Program Files, not a locked OneDrive path if the client fights the lock.
Turn on file extensions. The archive must read as .zip. A double extension or a renamed stub will waste an hour. ZIP vs EXE.
If the file is a few hundred bytes, you extracted a README stub. A real Windows build of this class is usually megabytes. Download again from Download and keep the filename.
Do not unpack to the site root next to HTML on a shared host and expect that to be the user workflow. This documentation’s download href is /files/Xeno_1.3.6.0.zip. Pretty URL /download is the page, not a folder of binaries.
After extract: first run order. Playable client, then the executable from the folder, then attach once. First run, tutorial. SmartScreen may still appear. That is separate. SmartScreen.
Blocked by “file in use” usually means a Xeno process or a preview handle is still open. Close the window, wait, extract again to a new folder name. Overlaying on a running tree is how people get half-old DLLs and call it offsets.
USB sticks and network shares add locks and Slow I/O that look like a hung first run. Prefer a local disk for the extract you actually attach with.
